Announcing the 2017 Hall of Fame Class – plus the parties!

Each year since 2015, Podcast Movement has been proud to partner with the Academy of Podcasters to induct a new class to the AofP Hall of Fame. After an open nomination process, all current members of the HOF voted on the finalists, and we’re pleased to announce the 2017 Class.

These five podcast industry veterans will be inducted on Wednesday, August 23 at the Academy of Podcasters Awards and Hall of Fame Ceremony, taking place in conjunction with Podcast Movement 2017 in Anaheim.

Brian Ibbott

Brian Ibbott is best known for his podcast Coverville. Coverville is a podcast that started in 2004, produced every Wednesday, that focuses on cover songs – a new rendition of a previously recorded song. Coverville is one of the longest running podcasts in the iTunes Store, and also is in the top rankings for overall episode numbers. The show has won multiple awards over the years, and has been nominated as an AofP Awards finalist for Best Music Podcast.

Dan Klass

Dan Klass has been releasing the award-winning The Bitterest Pill since 2004. Dan also co-wrote Podcast Solutions: The Complete Guide to Audio/Video Podcasting. Dan has produced and consulted for companies like Speedo, Grey Advertising and Big Brothers/Sisters under his company Jacket Media, since 2005. He is a proud member of the Academy of Podcasters, and is a podcast instructor at UCLA university.

Elsie Escobar

Elsie Escobar a die hard podcast junkie who lives and breathes podcasting, and has worked in the medium for over ten years. She, like many of us, started as someone who barely knew what a digital recorder was, and has since grown into the co-host of the popular She Podcasts, and The Feed: The Official Libsyn podcast. Elsie is currently the Community Manager at Libsyn, and is the founder of Podcasting School for Women.

Luria Petrucci (aka. Cali Lewis)

Luria Petrucci is a pioneer in the podcasting and live streaming world, known for her shows GeekBeat.TV and GeekBrief.TV, amongst others. Since 2005, she’s grown an audience of 2 million social followers, and has produced and hosted video & live streams for her own communities, Samsung, Panasonic, AT&T, OnStar, DISH Network, Verizon FiOS, Bausch + Lomb, BBC Click. and more. You can find the majority of her work now on Geeks Life.

Rob Greenlee

Rob Greenlee is the Head of Podcast Content at Spreaker and Adore Podcast Network. Rob was formerly with PodcastOne as EVP/CTO, and for six years was the Business Manager and Content Manager for podcasts at Microsoft Zune, Xbox and Windows Phone. Rob currently hosts the Spreaker Live Show podcast, and co-hosts the New Media Show. He is also former lead host of WebTalk World Radio Show; recognized as the first nationally syndicated radio program in the world to begin podcasting, on Sept 15th, 2004.

Please join us in congratulating the members of the 2017 Academy of Podcasters Hall of Fame Class, and join them for the induction ceremony THIS AUGUST!

Did someone say party?

Podcast Movement is excited to partner with the Academy to present the awards on August 23, but some of our favorite things each year are the parties before and after!

iHeartRadio Red Carpet Party

The Red Carpet Welcome Party has taken on a life of it’s own over the last few years. It always features premium networking opportunities, photos & selfies on the red carpet, impromptu interviews and podcast celebrity sightings (including the Podcast Pickle).

This year, the party is sponsored by iHeartRadio, and they’ll be supplying the refreshments!

Please remember to mark your calendar for Wednesday, August 23 at 6:00 pm.

Patreon’s Awards Afterparty

The first night of the conference is always one of the best evenings of the entire event. Catch up with fellow members of the PM17 family, congratulate the award winners and hall of fame inductees, meet new friends from all over the world and have a choice beverage.

The party takes place after the AofP ceremony, and is presented by Patreon!

Mark your calendar for Wednesday, August 23 at 9:30 pm, and don’t confuse Patreon with Patron!

Prepare yourself, as next week we begin to announce our speaking lineup for 2017. We have over 100 amazing speakers and panelists, and next week we’ll announce the speakers participating on our Jacobs Media Track, plus a whole lot more!
Until then,
Team PM17

Important dates:
April 25 – Early Bird Registration ends AT MIDNIGHT

August 22 – PMx Competition, Optional Workshops, First Timers’ orientation, Ignite Podcast Movement, and more!

Ignite Podcast Movement, Podcast Pavilion and Podcast Pickup Lines!

This week we are announcing Ignite Podcast Movement, the PM17 Podcast Pavilion, and sharing some of the best Podcast Pickup Lines from the Podcast Movement Community Facebook Group.

It Starts with a Spark
Five Minute Talks

PM alum John Lee Dumas from EOFire always starts out his podcast by asking his guests if they are prepared to Ignite. Podcast Movement can honestly say that this summer we are prepared to Ignite, but not quite the way that you might be expecting.

We are excited to bring the popular Ignite event to
Podcast Movement on Tuesday evening, August 22!

Ignite is a unique speaking event where a series of speakers get on stage for five minutes each to share a Spark. A Spark is a 5 minute talk that consists of 20 slides. Each slide is on a 15 second auto advance. Ready or not, the next slide is on the way!

Each Spark is designed to educate and entertain. You, the attendees of Podcast Movement, vote and choose who gets on stage! Each speaker learns the rules, submits a topic, and then you vote for your favorites. The top voted speakers make it on the main Podcast Movement stage for Ignite! But the real winners are those who show up, enjoy the Sparks – and maybe a drink ticket – at Podcast Movement.

Example Ignite Talk – https://youtu.be/iRSOpxjRJUI?t=30s

Do you want a chance to speak on the main stage at PM17? If so, please fill out the speaker submission form here.

PM gets its own
Podcast Pavilion!

Podcast Movement has always been a great place to talk about and learn about podcasting, but we’ve always lacked in opportunities to actually podcast…until now!

While we received a great response from the podcast booth at our previous events, this year with the help of TalkShoe, we’re introducing the PM17 Podcast Pavilion! You’ll have the opportunity to sign up to record your podcast live, from the middle of the action, and stream it live via the TalkShoe platform. PM alumni Steve Stewart will be at the helm, and it will be a blast.

We’re also excited to announce that the stations will feature microphones from our friends at Shure, and you’ll be able to enter to win these same microphones free in the coming weeks!

Stay tuned to future newsletters to learn how you can sign up to do your podcast live from PM this summer.

Don’t miss out on the fun Tuesday Night events, recording live at the Podcast Pavilion, and of course Podcast Movement’s workshops, panels and sessions!

The Podcast Movement Community Facebook Group always has ongoing educational and informative conversations about all things podcasting. This past weekend was no different, as a lively discussion ensued regarding “Podcast Pickup Lines”.

Here are a few that made us laugh:

“You and my podcast have a lot in common. You can both be found in the “What’s Hot” section.” – Jeff Brown

“Did it hurt when you fell from SoundCloud?” – Gary Leland

“Baby, if you were a podcast, I’d subscribe to you on every device I own.” – Jason Velazquez

“Why don’t you back that RSS up on over here?” – Aaron Weinbaum

“I’ll show you my downloads if you show me yours” – Edie Berg

“Want to come over and eat a Blue Apron meal? I have an offer code.” – Bryan Orr

“I’ll need a two-factor authentication, because you are unreal” – Jon Harrison

“I’d share an earbud with you”. – Daniel J Lewis

“All your links are pretty links.” – Cesar Abeid

“Would you like to record in PERSON or do a DOUBLE ENDER?” – Unknown

Do you have any good podcast pickup lines? Feel free to share them or participate in other podcasting related conversations in the Podcast Movement Community Facebook Group!

The truth is more exciting than fiction: Aaron Mahnke of Lore will keynote Podcast Movement

The Easter Bunny has been good to the Podcast Movement community, as we have two late arriving easter eggs that we’re excited to crack open together with you this week.

Folk-Lore No More!

PM17 is honored to welcome Aaron Mahnke of Lore as a keynote speaker this summer in Anaheim

Aaron Mahnke is the creator, writer and producer of the hit podcast Lore (one of iTunes’ Best Podcasts in 2015, an AofP Best Podcast winner in 2016, and now headed to television… more on that in a moment), where he explores the darker side of history from around the world.

Lore is a critically-acclaimed podcast about true life scary stories. Mahnke uses historically accurate information to bound together these stories by a common theme, and spends over twenty hours a week on research alone!

Lore launched in March of 2015, starting as a hobby and a last ditch effort to market Mahnke’s fiction. The podcast exploded. At the five-month mark, he was able to sell enough sponsorship spots for the show to replace the income from his day job. After just two years, Lore has been downloaded more than 60 million times, and downloads now exceed 6-million per month.

But wait… there’s more! Lore is becoming an hour-long anthology television series from the producers of The Walking Dead, soon to debut on Amazon Video. And next year, Del Rey Books (Penguin Random House) will debut the first installment of The World Of Lore book series!

We are thrilled to have Aaron share his podcast journey with us this summer in Anaheim!

Meet and learn from Aaron Mahnke, plus over 100 other podcasters, at this year’s Podcast Movement!

Networking Roundtables are coming to PM17

The magic at PM17 is not only in the value packed sessions! The conference hallways have always had a great reputation for being a place to network, connect and discuss podcast related topics with fellow podcasters and industry professionals.

While that will ALWAYS be the case, we’re excited to add one more way to meet with and learn from your fellow attendees!

This year in Anaheim, we’ll have 11 Networking Round Table discussion sessions taking place alongside the other panels and sessions. Each networking session will have an expert leader who will moderate the discussions, and facilitate some amazing networking and learning.

Topics will include:

  • Lawyers, Lawsuits, and Liability
  • Community Building
  • Local Podcasting
  • Voice and Mic Technique
  • Podcasting Productivity
  • Automating Your Podcast
  • Interview Best Practices
    and more!

We are introducing the roundtable discussions after some great feedback from last year’s event. We’ll announce the times, locations and moderators for the table discussions in the coming months.

Stay tuned next week to find out about two awesome new activities coming to Podcast Movement. You won’t want to miss PM17!

Until next week,
Team Podcast Movement

July 24-26, 2018 – Podcast Movement 2018 (mark your calendars)

Don’t take our word for it…but Podcast Movement can change your life!

Happy Tuesday PM Family,

We share with you each week, in some form or fashion, how we would like for you to be a part of Podcast Movement this summer in Anaheim. Well for this week’s newsletter, we decided to change it up!

This week we share stories from past PM attendees who have had amazing experiences and results after attending Podcast Movement.

Joe Saul-Sehy

“Podcast Movement gave me the confidence to do something I knew needed to be done….I had to change our format. After guidance from pros in many sessions I had the courage and expertise to make some tough moves. I’m SO glad I took the advice I learned at Podcast Movement. Within three months we 3x’d our listeners. A year later publications in our industry were handing us “Best Podcast” awards. I credit that largely to Podcast Movement.”

Stacking Benjamins

Denise LaRosa

“Whenever I started podcasting, I was a stay at home mom who had a deep desire to connect with other mothers. Podcast Movement changed my life and podcasting journey completely! What started out as a hobby transformed into a profitable business. I formed genuine, meaningful connections with other podcasters who became guests and lifelong friends. In addition, my appearance as a PMx speaker was the catalyst to my speaking career!”

Mom Talk

Rich Jones

“I bumped into a representative from a software solution company outside of one of the evening sessions at PM16. We started a conversation about the possibility of sponsorship. Unfortunately, the Paychecks and Balances podcast was not a fit at that time. Podcast Movement encouraged me to stay focused and produce the best show possible. The podcast grew a lot during this timeframe. 8 months later we signed an agreement for this same company to be a sponsor for the show!”

Paychecks and Balances

Natalie Eckdahl

“Thank you Podcast Movement! I landed my first sponsor at #PM16 by connecting with my email marketing provider AWeber in the vendor area. It has been a fabulous partnership that was only made possible by the opportunity to meet in person. Thanks again Jared and Dan for bringing us all together.”

WHY JOIN US AT THE ANAHEIM MARRIOTT?

When booking your hotel for PM17, you may find other choices besides the host hotel. However, we’d love to share with you some of the benefits to booking your room at our host hotel, using our special discounted room block.

1. Maximize Networking and Social Time with other Podcasters!
One of the key reasons podcasters attend Podcast Movement is to meet other podcasters, as well as networks, sponsors and more. By staying at the Anaheim Marriott, where almost all the other attendees are staying, you will enhance your opportunities to meet new and old faces, and share experiences and ideas.

2. Stay Where the Action Is!
Not only is the Anaheim Marriott the hotel we recommend, it’s also where every single official event will take place from Tuesday through Friday. Whether it’s the keynote talks, PM Expo, or the big Thursday Night Luau, guests of the Anaheim Marriott will be steps away from it all!

3. Special Guest Status!
As a PM17 attendee booked at the Anaheim Marriott as a part of our room block, you are considered a special guest by the hotel. Guests at the hotel receive preferred service and additional concessions negotiated by PM17. This year we’ve negotiated free use of the 24/7 fitness center, and free internet for all PM17 guests no matter where in your room, or the hotel, you’re at.

4. Stay close to what makes Anaheim Great!
While Anaheim is home to this year’s Podcast Movement, it is also home to some of the most magical places on earth. You’re steps away (two blocks) from DisneyLand Resort, and just minutes from some of the most beautiful beaches in the country. We encourage you to take advantage of the Anaheim Marriott’s premier location, and enjoy your time in Southern California.

Spring Break, a new Sessions Podcast and a special speaker announcement!

Greetings PM family, can you believe that it is April already!?!

Spring is here (or hopefully on its way soon where you are), and a few members of the PM staff have already enjoyed some Spring-Break-style trips. The Podcast Cruise went to Mexico in February, Gary Leland spoke on an all star podcast panel this past month at Social Media Marketing World in San Diego, and Dan and Jared exhibited at WrestleCon in Orlando meeting with a lot of podcasters in the wrestling niche.

PM also had a recent community meetup in Vancouver, WA. If that weren’t enough going on – we are seeing more and more of the orange PM t-shirts surfacing as the weather is getting warmer!

Here are a few photos from these experiences:

What podcast experiences are you enjoying this month? Please send us your spring podcast photos to hello@podcastmovement.com so that we can feature you in the newsletter this month!

NEW EPISODE OF SESSIONS

We announced recently that PM17 will feature Shannon Cason from Homemade Stories as one of our keynote speakers! Shannon’s session at PM16 in Chicago was one of the best from the entire event. This episode breaks down that session!

You can check it out here

Thank you to PM Sessions host Joel Sharpton for producing this great episode!

SPEAKER ANNOUNCEMENT

We have many cool speaker announcements coming up over the next few weeks and months. One speaker announcement that we wanted to celebrate right away is a first for our event! We are honored to have Michael and Teresa Blaes speak this year in Anaheim.

What is this a first for?

Michael and Teresa are our first ever blind speakers at Podcast Movement.

Their session is titled What does your website sound like? It will educate on the importance and simplicity of making podcast websites accessible to nearly 6 million blind users. They will also demonstrate what a website looks like to a blind person using a screen reader. They have provided website consulting for over ten years, and are active podcasters themselves, so they have great value to provide on this topic.

Would you be willing to consider sending them a short message and congratulating them? You can message them through the contact link on their website or connect with Michael and Teresa on Twitter!
